Misfit Shine

Misfit Shine is a wearable fitness and activity tracker.  It is one of the best looking trackers we’ve seen to date.  The Shine is carved out of a solid block of aircraft grade aluminum and is water resistant to 50m, a designation that sets it apart from other fitness trackers.  It can be clipped to your clothing, worn on your wrist with either a rubber or leather strap, and can even be worn as a necklace. The Misfit Shine is a bit larger than a quarter and is able to track swimming, cycling, and steps taken.  The device can also track sleep and the LEDs can be used as a clock as well. iPad Air

Today Apple announced the newest version of the iPad, the iPad Air.  With more than 170 million sold, the iPad has been the best performing tablet on the market, period.  The new iPad Air is thinner, lighter and more powerful.  It comes with a 9.7 inch Retina Display and is 20% thinner than the last generation, with a 43% thinner bezel. It weighs in at only one pound, two-thirds the weight of the current iPad.  The Air borrows the A7 and M7 processors from the iPhone 5S. The new iPad will get up to 10 hours of battery life and gets an updated 1080P video camera as well. Starts at $499 and ships November 1st. Apple also announced a Retina display iPad mini, starting at $399, available in late November.

FUBi Folding Bike

Fitbit Force

Force tracks steps taken, distance traveled, stairs climbed, calories burned, and active minutes during the day.  At night, the Fitbit can track quality of sleep, hours slept, and has a silent wake up alarm.  Soon the Force will also show call notifications.  The wristband uses Bluetooth 4.0 to automatically update and sync to your computer or smartphone. MeterPlug

MeterPlug is an easy way to find out where all your money is spent on electricity. The device plugs directly into your wall outlet and transmits usage information via bluetooth to your smartphone.  MeterPlug can power on or off any device that is plugged into it. The included app will display how much money the electronics plugged into it are using. It can even calculate the cost of electricity at peak and off peak times in some areas. MeterPlug can be automatically programmed to shut off devices on standby, gaming consoles can cost over $200 per year on standby alone! It can also be programmed to turn off a device when you walk away and turn it back on when you return, as well as allowing you to manually turn electronics on and off when within range.  The only thing missing is a Wi-Fi link, so that devices can be turned off outside of the range of Bluetooth/remotely when away, which we hope gets added to later versions. The Auris Skye is a device that let’s you update any speaker dock to work with any of your devices over WiFi using AirPlay and DLNA.  Since this system uses WiFi and not Bluetooth, you can roam freely throughout your home without worrying about going out of range.  This is great for the early adopters that bought in to the speaker dock eco-system with their 30 pin connector Apple devices years ago. It’s like something out of science fiction.  You walk up to your door, it recognizes who you are and unlocks it for you. We love smart locking systems, see our review of Lockitron. This new system, called August, will automatically unlock your door, and you can assign and revoke access to whoever you want.  The elegant and minimalist design draws your eye to the device, even though you don’t have to ever look at it.  As soon as you close your door, August knows to lock it behind you. Foldylock

Foldylock is an incredibly sturdy bike lock that folds to fit into a compact case that you can mount on your bike or toss in a backpack. Constructed of six hardened steel links sheathed in plastic to protect your bikes frame from scratches.  The Foldylock unfolds to a total length of 90cm (just under 3′) and weighs in at 1.5kg (3.3lbs).  The lock is rust free, and the manufacturer claims it has been subjected to rigorous salt bath testing with incredible results.
